My SIL has become interested in Imam Ghasali (is that how you spell it) and Sufism. DH is flipping, but I have always wanted to know more about it myself. Does anyone have any recommendations for more information on Sufism? Any Sufis out there with thoughts?

If you can get a hold of Imam Ghazali's "Ihya' 'Ulum al-Din", it has a lot in there. And is a very popular work to study from.

ReplyDeleteInner Dimensions of Islamic Worship is excerpts from his larger work, translated into english, I found that fairly easy to get a hold of online (alibris.com, an excellent place to go for used books, not very expensive)
ReplyDeleteI dont mean to be a downer but meanwhile Ghazali has some rather awesome things to say and is an amazing intellectual as with any mortal, there are things which you might disagree with as a woman. Those things however you might not find in the common literature. Just my 2 cents.

Asalaamu Alaikum. In the little I have learned about sufi beliefs and practices...I think they have strayed in many ways from the roots of Islam. Stick with the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah. I understand DH flipping out.
