Happy Eid, can I go to bed now?

I don't know about other women out there, but Ramadan leaves me wiped. The cooking and cleaning for the family, preparing for Eid... I think there should be a week of rest for all caregivers after Eid is over. Are you with me?

Of course I have fasting to make up. Insha'Allah I will start this Thursday and fast Mondays and Thursdays until I make up my days. I have been playing with the idea of committing myself to Mondays and Thursdays all the time, I have a BIL who does that. Considering how much fasting I have missed I would like to do it.

How was Eid for everyone? Pretty ho hum here... But the kids were too happy with their gifts and new clothes to care!LOL Alhamdulilah. DH surprised me with some nice gifts (he gave them to me early since he never can seem to keep a secret!LOL) and that was nice. I must admit to going a little crazy the day before Eid though... Trying to get things ready and do the shopping... DH wanted me to go fishing and I was a little too firm with my no I think, but he took the kids and gave me a chance to prepare their gifts and stuff the pinata without them around. One thing I was hoping to do is a goody basket for our neighbors, but I didn't have time. Next Eid, insha'Allah.

Oh, and the TV isn't coming back. I had said it was a Ramadan thing at first... But now I am thinking about making it permanent (DH is not so happy). Seriously, I got more done and the kids actually played with their toys, did craft projects, read, and played board games that haven't seen the light of day in years. Alhamdulilah. Did I mention all the great books I read? I am finishing up Kite Runner... WOW. Seriously people, go read a book!!! You won't regret it!

Asalaam Alaikum Sister,

I likewise am continuing my soda give up that I started during Ramadan. We still have our tv though. Emmi is healing nicely, alhamdulilah. But she seems to be more clingy this week which is fine.

I got part way into the Kite RUnner but I couldn't finish it. But I always end my day with a good book before I go to bed. SO I concur, go get a book and READ!

May Allah bless you and your family,

Aeryn

Oh, do keep the tv away. You'll never miss it. If you get in the mood to watch a movie or the news or something, you can still do it on the computer, but it will be something you seek out intentionally, rather than something you just fall into. When I had my tv sometimes I would spend ten minutes flipping through channels without even finding anything to watch. Or I'd sit down to watch one show and find myself still sitting there a few hours later. And the other thing is that it will be so good for your mental health to not be constantly exposed to the hateful network news and the barrage of advertisements. I think it's only been a couple of years since I got rid of the tv, and honestly I hardly ever have the urge to buy anything any more. It really affects your brain. It must be even worse for kids' brains. Insha Allah you will never regret this.

For my future children, i dont want we have any TV at home. I prefer to teach them some jobs by hands. I want their mind be free from influence of western stupid cartoons..

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dearest sister,

(Sorry for not dropping by sooner..it's been really busy here) I totally hear you on 'a week off after Ramadaan.' :)

I am so happy your Eid went well. Mine was a little quiet (most family members weren't around this year).. but with the brilliant weather, we managed to have a bbq! (which makes Eid for us, that much more special.. and the gifts!.. hehe)

Usually in the evening or even the next day I put some cookies and cake together (in a pretty box) to give few of our neighbours.. and they are all very happy to receive it. Maybe try it that way, you'll only have to worry about purchasing boxes a few days before.

Insha'Allah you are able to fast on Mondays and Thursday, it's not as difficult as most people think it is. And Ramadaan becomes a breeze.

Congratulations on keeping the TV 6 feet under :) You really can get more things done without it. And I really think children who don't watch so much tv are more creative and productive children.

Take care,
Wa'alaykum as-salaam
Love Farhana

As salamu alaikum sister,

Alhamdulillah, your getting rid of the t.v. it really is no good for many many reasons.Time can be used much more productively on things that are important and beneficial.

I also just finished reading The Kite Runner..such a good book..I also have A Thousand Splendid Suns, but I havent gotten a chance to read it yet,its supposed to be really good.

Congrats on the T.V thing. We got rid of ours too. We still have the pc but it isn't as addicting as a t.v set. INsha'Allah little by little we can remove the not-so-beneficial addictive habits.
