Let the games begin...

So rather than get getting our backs all arched up and hissing at each other... DH has proposed what might actually be a solution to our clutter/the house looks bad problem. Actually spending on furnishings. WHOOOOO. Now this is from the couple that spent an entire nine months saving change in a jar to buy a rocking chair when our DD was born. A couple of times DH has gotten a good deal on furniture and really helped out, alhamdulilah... But we never went out and got an actual living room set or something. Which is dumb really because we have it...

So, my first items? An entertainment center and a huge desk for DH's study. Now before you hate, just say masha'Allah and remember that I will be crying tears of blood while I get this house organised and cleaned out... DH's study alone will take days. But no buying untill there is a place for it. Oh, and the and the bathroom is going to get some serious work done on it too. Make dua we don't all suffocate in toxic mold spores when they tear that wall out... Yuck.

So pain and glory kids... Let the cleaning marathon begin.

Asalamalaykom Sis,

Good idea! I wish you lots of fortitude. Cleanliness is such a huge part of Islam. You will feel better when your furnishings are helping you organize. Enshahallah. No hate from me ;)

Asalaam Alaikum Sister,

How is the re-organization and cleaning going? Inshallah it isn't too bad.

No hate here either. MashaAllah good stuff! My problem I think is having too much furniture - too many spots I can shove things when I really should be THROWING it all out!

You will feel so much better when you're organised. InshaAllah it's all coming along swell.

Ohhh, well it's a pain but things are looking up here. And the timing couldn't be better with the Eid around the corner. Insha'Allah I can finish off the cleaning by hanging decorations. We are going to both hit it hard this afternoon (DH is planning to do his clothes collection). I have my eye on an entertainment center... But keep thinking that it is against my better judgement to spend that much on one piece of furniture... We'll have to see if the two of us really have the heart to spend the money we set aside. We have no trouble with spending money here and there that would add up to the amount we have designated for furniture... But when you get to a big chunk all at once we both wince. Silly really... We would get more out of the furniture than we would out of the trips to Sams and dining out that we will do with the money.

Tasmiya, The too much furniture thing was a problem when we first got married... But it was all pretty much junk. We sold it all when we moved to a furnished place with the intention of getting real furniture when we moved out... But we never did. Instead we colleced from sales and took the last sad few pieces we owned from storage. And with very few exceptions (our dining room table, our couch with matching love seat and recliner and the kids bunk beds) we could really get rid of everything again. And as I buy, that is what I plan to do... Though DH (big packrat) might have heart palpitations while I'm doing it!LOL

salaams sis!
I found your site while I was blog hopping. I didn't even know there were muslims in Wyoming! :) Seriously though, I completely feel you on the whole re-organizing thing. My husband has ADD, and is forever stacking papers in random places and stacks of his crap are everywhere. Heaven forbid I clean it-then he can't "find" anything. (eyes roll)Maybe I can get him in the Eid spirit and help me tackle it!!
