Sufism?

My SIL has become interested in Imam Ghasali (is that how you spell it) and Sufism. DH is flipping, but I have always wanted to know more about it myself. Does anyone have any recommendations for more information on Sufism? Any Sufis out there with thoughts?

Asalaam Alaikum Sister,

I know I have read some books. I will look back through and see which ones I enjoyed and get you some names and stuff, inshallah. Read just about anything I could get my hands on before and after my conversion/reversion to Islam.

May Allah bless you and your family,

Aeryn

I believe Koonj is sufi. You could check out her blog to see if she has some info or resources.

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dear sister,

Ahhh.. Imam Ghazali...masha'Allah! Your sister-in-law is on a wonderful journey insha'Allah.

I too would love to know more about the subject!

If you can get a hold of Imam Ghazali's "Ihya' 'Ulum al-Din", it has a lot in there. And is a very popular work to study from.

Check out this site: http://www.ghazali.org/
You can find it online..but it's a very large piece of work..and I don't enjoy reading a book online.

Wa'alaykum as-salaam

Inner Dimensions of Islamic Worship is excerpts from his larger work, translated into english, I found that fairly easy to get a hold of online (alibris.com, an excellent place to go for used books, not very expensive)

I dont mean to be a downer but meanwhile Ghazali has some rather awesome things to say and is an amazing intellectual as with any mortal, there are things which you might disagree with as a woman. Those things however you might not find in the common literature. Just my 2 cents.

Two Treatises

These should be a good start for anyone looking for a grounded and practical sufism

Asalaamu Alaikum. In the little I have learned about sufi beliefs and practices...I think they have strayed in many ways from the roots of Islam. Stick with the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah. I understand DH flipping out.
